The Studio
Drawing
Through still life arrangements, one can observe a variety of subjects in art to develop their skills of drawing and painting. Our still life lessons teach you how to look at an object and see it like an artist - with a conscious awareness of its outline, shape, proportions, tone, color, texture and form. Beautiful scenery can also be drawn or painted inspired by the state park adjacent to the studio. The instructor will guide you to use a range of different media.
Painting
A demonstration of the skills and techniques involved in successfully painting with acrylics, watercolors and oils will occur periodically. Each stage is carefully explained and clearly illustrated to help the student understand this detailed approach to painting.
Ceramics
Learn the basics of hand building and glazing while making functional mugs, platters, decorative tiles and free form sculptures. Understand how to use the different sculpting methods of building with coil, slab and pinch construction. Classes will cover these techniques along with slip painting, sgraffito, image transfer and stenciling. The studio is equipped with an electric kiln, a slab roller, clay, glazes and the tools to work.
Pottery
Understanding the Potter’s wheel is the key to learning this ancient craft. Once you master this Art, you will be anxious to build and create many forms. Mugs, bowls, plates, and vases will flow from your fingertips. Adding a cylindrical lid to fit properly will encourage you to complete a piece. Making sturdy, but interesting handles can also be exciting to attach to an original sculpture.
Woodworking
The DiStadio Studio property has a two story red barn with a complete carpenter’s workshop. Develop a sound knowledge of the tools, safety procedures, materials, and building methods used in modern carpentry. The Master carpenter will guide you to create a unique WoodWorking project. Instruction can range from building a shelving unit to constructing Pirate Ship bed. Visual interest, functionality and sturdiness can all be a part of a creative carpenter.
